Description: Nursing and critical thinking strategies focused on meeting basic human needs within the wellness/illness continuum. Theoretical concepts related to holistic care of adult and geriatric clients with selected alterations in health. Introduces human growth and developmental principles. Introduction to care of newborn, pediatric, well childbearing clients, and childrearing families. Continuation of the role of the nurse as member of the health care team. Includes concepts of pathophysiology, nutrition, and communication. Application of previous knowledge of physical, biologic, social, and nursing sciences

1. Identify nursing strategies that promote a therapeutic environment for adults, pediatric, childbearing clients, and their families. (I)
2. Apply concepts of therapeutic communication in the nurse- client relationship. (I)
3. Describe nursing practices that provide basic care and comfort measures. (I, IV)
4. Describe use of critical thinking in a variety of basic client care situations. (II)
5. Integrate concepts of holism as it applies to client care. (III)
6. Explain pathophysiological processes involved in selected health alterations. (IV)
7. Describe normal and abnormal assessment data related to care of clients with selected health alterations. (IV)
8. Identify nutritional concepts which support wellness and therapeutic nutrition needs for childbearing clients, adult, and pediatric clients with selected health alterations. (IV, V)
9. Recognize developmental and learning needs to plan care for adults, pediatric, childbearing clients, and their families. (IV)
10. Describe standards of care which safeguard client`s health and well being. (IV)
11. Apply the nursing process relevant to care of adult and pediatric clients with selected alterations in health. (IV)
12. Describe health strategies related to health promotion, maintenance and disease prevention. (V)
13. Apply the nursing process relevant to care of well childbearing clients and the child rearing family. (IV)
14. Identify the role of the nurse as a member of a healthcare team. (VI)
