Description: Knowledge and skills to safely prepare and administer intravenous medications and solutions. Includes advanced metrology to accurately calculate IV drug dosages and infusion rates.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Apply standards of evidenced-based practice related to intravenous therapy to ensure the delivery of safe, quality care. (I)
2. Accurately calculate Intravenous (IV) drug dosages and administration rates when preparing intravenous medications for IV bolus, IV intermittent (piggyback), and continuous infusion. (II)
3. Demonstrate safe preparation and administration of intravenous medications for IV bolus, IV intermittent (IVPB), and continuous infusion. (III)
4. Describe patient-centered, collaborative management related to safe IV medication administration. (IV)
5. Identify types, indications and uses of vascular access devices. (V)
6. Describe care and maintenance protocols for selected vascular access devices. (V)
