Description: Preparation for relocation to the maternal/child health unit the hospital nurse. Application of maternal/child nursing theory based upon the nursing process.

1. Outline the essential components of a physical assessment in the hospitalized antepartal, intrapartal, or postpartum client. (I)
2. Describe the nursing care involved when caring for an antepartal, intrapartal or postpartum patient. (II)
3. Outline the essential components of a physical assessment in the newborn. (III)
4. Describe the nursing care involved when caring for the neonate. (IV)
5. Explain the key procedures and concerns in nursing care for selected common complications in the maternity patient. (V)
6. Explain specific nursing care practices designed for selected common complications in the newborn. (VI)
7. Demonstrates the knowledge of actions, dosages, administration routes, and nursing implications for selected maternal/child medication orders appropriate medications and their contra-indications. (VII)
