Description: Overview of the philosophy, core values, policies, competencies and curricular components of the Maricopa Community College District Nursing Program. Basic concepts of therapeutic communication, normal growth and development, the nursing process, pharmacology, metrology, and concepts of intravenous therapy. Emphasis on the use of the nursing process, utilization of critical thinking skills, sound decision-making principles in the clinical setting, the communication process, time management and stress reduction, and the transition in role expectations between Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN). Review and evaluation of Practical Nursing skills included.

1. Describe the philosophy, core values, policies and objectives of the Maricopa Community College District Nursing Program (MCCDNP). (I)
2. Discuss the clinical expectations of the Maricopa Community College District Nursing Program. (II)
3. Define the critical thinking process as it relates to clinical nursing issues. (III)
4. Discuss personal empowerment skills and behaviors to improve a student`s ability to accomplish goals. (IV)
5. Utilize the nursing process as the theoretical framework for the delivery of care to clients of diverse age groups, backgrounds and cultures. (V)
6. Develop a plan of care based on a given client scenario. (VI)
7. Apply skills of communication, delegation and conflict management to a given client scenario. (VII)
8. Describe role changes required to transition from LPN to RN. (VIII)
9. Demonstrate selected Practical Nursing skills according to specified criteria. (IX)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
