Interpretation of Cardiac Arrhythmias
Course: NCE214CA

First Term: 1998 Summer I
Lecture   1 Credit(s)   1 Period(s)   1 Load
Subject Type: Occupational
Load Formula: S

Description: Focuses on common cardiac arrhythmias. Includes abnormalities in regard to the major and minor effects on a patient`s health, specific drug therapy and nursing implications

MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the normal heart. (I)
2. Identify the relationships between mechanical and electrical activity of the heart. (II)
3. Describe the basic neurophysiology of the heart. (III)
4. Discuss characteristics of dysrhythmias within the five major classifications of cardiac dysrhythmias. (IV)
5. Calculate time intervals involved in normal and abnormal conduction within the heart, utilizing the systematic approach to cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation. (V)
6. Identify the impulse origin, EKG features, and causes for identified cardiac dysrhythmias. (V)
7. Identify the medical management and nursing interventions during the modes of treatment for basic dysrhythmias. (V)
8. Recognize indicated changes in the patient`s clinical condition and identify appropriate priority action for prevention or treatment of basic cardiac dysrhythmias. (V)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work. Please see individual course syllabi for additional information, including specific course requirements.
