Description: Update of emergency assessment in the school setting. Includes emergency assessment of seizures, asthma, head and neck injuries, heat-related problems, bites, stings, and burns, and orthopedic injuries.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Identify current seizure assessment and treatment for the school-age child. (I, II)
2. Describe the recommended treatment for head and neck trauma encountered in the school environment. (III)
3. Describe the acute interventions involved in treating lacerations and orthopedic injuries at school. (IV)
4. Identify the infectious diseases encountered by the school-age child and describe current treatments. (V)
5. Explain current interventions in the treatment of bites, stings and burns. (VI)
6. Identify the children at risk for developing heat-related problems and describe interventions. (VII)
7. Identify current modalities and describe current assessment procedures for the asthmatic child. (VIII)
