Description: Roles of emergency health team. Medical/legal issues specific to emergency room care. Triage classifications for specific emergency room/department situations, nursing care for selected conditions, trauma, and disease processes. Organ donation issues, discharge procedures and client education

1. Explain the emergency medical system and specific roles of the emergency nurse, physician, and paramedical emergency staff. (I)
2. Describe medical legal considerations specific to emergency nursing care. (I)
3. Select specific triage classifications for given emergency situations. (I)
4. Outline professional nursing responsibilities for client discharge procedures in the emergency room/department. (I)
5. Describe the importance of client education in the emergency room/department. (I)
6. Assign nursing diagnosis to selected client complaints. (II - XVII)
7. Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for adult and geriatric clients presenting with selected conditions, trauma, and disease processes as stated in program outline. (II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX)
8. Demonstrate nursing responsibilities in a simulated code situation. (II, XVI)
9. Describe the specific treatment and procedure for care of the abused client. (IX)
10. Identify protective measures and emergency interventions for psychiatric clients who may be disorientated and/or violent. (IX)
11. Explain the role and responsibilities of the emergency room nurse in the organ donation process. (IX)
12. Describe nursing care for patients presenting with selected OB/GYN problems. (X)
13. Plan, implement, and evaluate emergency nursing care for neonate and pediatric clients presenting with selected conditions, trauma, and disease processes. (XI, XII)
14. Demonstrate cervical spine immobilization and other orthopedic stabilization devices. (XII)
