Description: Knowledge and skills to care for an injured or suddenly ill person in remote locations. Treatment of wounds, bone, joint and soft-tissue injuries. Treatment and immobilization for head and neck injuries. Signs, symptoms and treatment for a seizure, and animal bites and stings. Assessment and treatment of patients with chest pain, diabetes and asthma. Treatment for specific environmental emergencies



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. List the steps in doing a patient assessment in an emergency situation. (I)
2. Describe the proper treatment of open wounds and burns, including dressing and bandaging. (II)
3. Describe the proper care for bone, joint, and soft-tissue injuries. (III)
4. Demonstrate the basic treatment for head and neck injuries including immobilization techniques. (IV)
5. Identify the signs, symptoms and emergency treatment of a seizure. (V)
6. Identify the signs and symptoms and interventions for the treatment of insect and animal bites, and stings. (VI)
7. Describe the proper assessment and treatment of chest pain, diabetic and asthmatic emergencies. (VII)
8. Describe the evaluation and treatment of altitude illness, and heat and cold emergencies. (VIII)
9. Describe safety and survival techniques that would be instituted in a remote emergency situation. (IX)
