Description: Basic grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary of the Navajo language. Practice of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Includes the study of the Navajo culture with participation in an off-campus Navajo cultural event



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Write a composition in Navajo of at least 100 words applying learned principles of vocabulary and structure. (I, II)
2. Describe self and others. (I, III, V)
3. Use basic expressions of Navajo kinship/clan relationships. (I, III, V)
4. Identify syntactic structures specific to the Navajo language. (I-III)
5. Define semantic elements specific to the Navajo language. (I- IV)
6. Provide and obtain basic information regarding verbal conjugations specific to the Navajo language. (I-V)
7. Speak, read, write, and listen to basic Navajo words and sentences. (I-V)
8. Identify and explain the meaning of geographical areas of Navajo land. (I-V)
9. Relate customs and culture of Navajo people. (I-V)
10. Use correct pronunciation and intonation of Navajo words. (II, III)
11. Read and explain meaning from a written Navajo text that contains learned vocabulary. (II, III)
