Description: Basic arithmetic for adults. Includes calculating decimals, percents, ratios and proportions



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Write decimal forms for English numbers and identify decimal place values to millionth place. (IA)
2. Compare decimals as to size and write decimals in specific order. (IB)
3. Add up to three decimal numbers with as many as four decimal places and subtract decimal numbers with different decimal places. (IC)
4. Multiply two decimal numbers with three decimal places and divide decimal numbers by whole numbers. (ID)
5. Divide decimal numbers by other decimal numbers and divide decimal numbers which have zeros in the answer. (ID)
6. Round decimals through the hundredth place value. (IE)
7. Define the term percent. (IIA)
8. Change percents to decimals and decimals to percents. (IIB)
9. Change percents to fractions and fractions to percents. (IIC)
10. Compare fractions to decimals and to percents. (IIB,C)
11. Calculate percentages of numbers (solving for the part) and what percent one number is of another number (solving for the percent). (IID)
12. Calculate the number when the percent is known and the percentage when the number is known (solving for the whole). (IID)
13. Define the term ratio and write ratios using the ratio symbol. (IIIA)
14. Define the term proportion and solve proportion problems and calculate prices by proportions. (IIIB)
15. Use fraction and/or mixed numbers in proportions. (IIIC)
