Description: Introduction to medical terms used in health care. Body systems approach to selected terms related to structures, functions, diseases, procedures, and diagnostic tests. Building and analyzing terms using basic word parts. Selected medical abbreviations and symbols and term spelling

1. Explain how medical terms are created. (I)
2. Apply standard word guidelines to medical terms. (I)
3. Use basic medical suffixes and prefixes accurately. (I)
4. Describe the organizational components, directional terms and anatomical position of the body. (II)
5. Identify selected body system structures and their related word parts. (III)
6. Identify selected functions of body organs and systems and their related word parts. (III)
7. Use system word parts to build and analyze terms. (III)
8. Define medical terms related to selected disease processes. (III)
9. Define selected diagnostic and procedural terms for each body system. (III)
10. Recognize selected abbreviations and symbols related to each body system. (III)
11. Spell specific medical terms. (II - III)
