Description: Second semester course in classical Greek, emphasis on written structures of the language. Attention placed on classical Greek pronunciation



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Review the inflections required in classical Greek for the gender of nouns, adjectives, and participles, emphasizing form and accent for correct pronunciation. (I)
2. Review the contraction of vowels in O-sounds, A-sounds and E- sounds, and E or O before long vowels or diphthongs, stressing correct pronunciation of classical Greek. (I)
3. Review the euphonic changes of the consonants, stressing correct pronunciation of classical Greek. (I)
4. Use the declensions of the personal, reflexive (direct or indirect), and reciprocal pronouns. (II)
5. Use the inflections of irregular adjectives. (II)
6. Use the regular and irregular comparative and the superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs. (II)
7. Use the inflections of the third declension nouns with vowel and diphthong stems. (II)
8. Use the inflections of the first and second declensions of contracted nouns and adjectives. (II)
9. Decline the Attic second declension. (II)
10. Form and correctly use the verbal adjectives in normal Greek sentences. (II)
11. Use the inflected endings of the present subjunctive active, middle, and passive forms of Omega-verbs. (III)
12. Use the present subjunctive in future constructions and after verbs of emotion, exhortation, appeal or prohibition. (III)
13. Use the present subjunctive to express a condition. (III)
14. Form the present optative active, middle, and passive mood of Omega-verbs in clauses of purpose. (III)
15. Conjugate Omega-verbs in the first and second aorist optative passive forms. (III)
16. Use the inflections of the present optative of Omega-verbs used with conditional sentences. (III)

23. Use the present, second aorist, and second perfect verbal systems of MI verbs-to put, to give, to show, to enter, to go, to lie, to sit, and to send-including indicative, imperative, infinitive, participle, and subjunctive forms. (III)
24. Use the cardinal numerals. (IV)
25. Read several selections in classical Greek which illustrate the grammatical concepts learned and demonstrate the richness of the classical Greek culture in our modern world. (V)
