Description: Introductory course that will provide the student with a general overview of the disciplines and professions associated with the fields of Exercise Science, Kinesiology and Physical Education. Basic history, philosophy, and theory of each discipline will be examined as well as relevant career potential and options.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the research process, the scientific method, characteristics and types of sources of research. (I)
2. Identify, locate, and use key resources in the library, computer, software etc. access journals in the field and critique articles from these journals. (II)
3. Identify and define the disciplines, professionals and research areas that are encompassed by the field of exercise science/kinesiology. (III, IV, V, VI)
4. Identify and define the disciplines, professions and research areas encompassed by the field of exercise and wellness. (VII)
5. Identify and define the disciplines, professions and research areas encompassed by the field of physical Education. (VIII)
6. Compare and contrast the basic theories, concepts and historical perspectives that drive each discipline. (III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII)
7. Identify the various career opportunities and professional options associated with each field. (III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII)
8. Compose a plan or course of study leading to a degree in a desired field. (IX)
