Description: Listening, speaking, reading, and writing English at a high beginning level. Focus on survival skills related to services and employment when living in the United States. Continuing development of grammatical patterns.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Identify and use language patterns and vocabulary in complete sentences in a systematic way. (I-IV)
2. Identify and use vocabulary associated with services and employment. (I-IV)
3. Identify and use adjectives in comparative and superlative forms. (I-IV)
4. Identify and use reflexive and intensive pronouns. (I-IV)
5. Identify and use present tense in questions and answers. (I-IV)
6. Identify and use past continuous tense in questions and answers. (I-IV)
7. Identify and use future tense with going to in questions and answers. (I-IV)
8. Identify and use future tense with will in questions and answers. (I-IV)
9. Identify and use present perfect tense in questions and answers. (I-IV)
10. Respond to and use commands in everyday situations. (I-IV)
11. Use complete sentences in everyday situations. (II)
12. Read simple and compound sentences with proper intonation. (II, III)
13. Ask questions in complete sentences, orally and in writing. (II, IV)
14. Answer questions in complete sentences, orally and in writing. (II, IV)
15. Provide personal information on long forms. (IV)
