Description: History of ultrasound including medical applications. Job description including opportunities, training and curriculum. Licensure, use and maintenance of sonography equipment, roles, rules and responsibilities of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the workplace.

1. Define and describe medical terminology related to General Medicine and Diagnostic Sonography. (I)
2. Describe the history of ultrasound and its medical applications. (II)
3. Describe the health care settings and organization structure of sonography environments. (III)
4. Describe the role of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. (IV)
5. Demonstrate room and equipment set-up for sonography labs. (V)
6. Describe the components of an ultrasound machine. (VI)
7. Define and describe uses of ultrasound in the body. (VII)
8. Compare and contrast correlative imaging modalities. (VIII)
9. Describe future trends in medical imaging. (IX)
10. Describe and demonstrate the correct equipment parameters for an abdominal sonographic examination. (X)
11. Describe and demonstrate the proper annotation for the ultrasound examination. (XI)
12. Describe and demonstrate scanning protocols in abdomen, pelvis, and small parts. (XII)
13. Demonstrate the use of American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (A.I.U.M.) and Radiation Measurement, Inc. (R.M.I.) phantoms for Quality Control and Equipment Calibration. (XIII)
14. Demonstrate appropriate preventive maintenance for the ultrasound machine, filters, camera, transducers. (XIV)
