Description: Integration of practice management concepts and comprehensive quality patient care in preparation for future collaborative practice between dental hygienists and dentists. Students are challenged with practice situations including productivity, conflict management, ethical and legal issues



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the value of collaboration between dentists and dental hygienists in practice. (I)
2. Explain the contributions of the dental hygienist to the dental practice. (II)
3. Apply leadership and management concepts to dental hygiene employment settings. (III)
4. Describe the legal concepts that apply to dental hygiene practice. (IV)
5. Apply an ethical decision making model to ethical dilemmas encountered in dental hygiene practice. (V)
6. Discuss the various quality improvement mechanisms employed in dentistry. (VI)
7. Plan an employment strategy to meet individual professional goals. (VII)
8. Organize a long term professional development plan to promote career satisfaction. (VIII)
