Description: Study of the dental hygiene process of care with emphasis on comprehensive care planning, case presentation, and clinical decision making. Introduction to advanced periodontal instrumentation



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Formulate dental hygiene care plans for patients with advanced periodontal case types. (I)
2. Explain the components of informed consent and its significance to the presentation of the dental hygiene care plan. (II)
3. Prepare and present a case documentation of a patient with moderate to advanced periodontitis. (III)
4. Determine appropriate instrument selection and technique for root debridement for patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. (IV)
5. Determine the need for supportive periodontal therapy based on the evaluation of client outcomes. (V)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
