Description: Manipulate permanent and temporary restorative materials, impression material, dental waxes, cements, periodontal dressings, bases and liners. Fabricate mouth protectors, study models, and custom impression trays. Laboratory proficiency in margination of permanent restorative materials.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Place and remove rubber dam and matrix. (I)
2. Marginate and polish amalgam restoration on a typodont. (I)
3. Manipulate periodontal dressing for placement on a typodont. (II)
4. Manipulate cements, bases and liners; i.e., calcium hydroxide, copal varnish, zinc oxide eugenol, zinc phosphate, zinc polycarboxalate, and glass ionomer. (III)
5. Demonstrate adaptation or a tray for patient impressions (IV)
6. Take irreversible hydrocolloid impressions. (IV)
7. Manipulate dental plaster and stone, and pour study models. (IV) (V)
8. Operate and maintain dental equipment; i.e., model trimmer, dental vibrator, lab engine, dental lathe, and vacuum adaptor. (VI)
9. Trim and polish study models. (IV)
10. Demonstrate manipulation of dental waxes. (VII)
11. Manipulate impression materials; i.e., irreversible and reversible hydrocolloid, polyether, rubber base, addition reaction and condensation reaction silicones and zinc oxide. (VIII)
12. Fabricate a custom acrylic tray for final impressions. (IX)
13. Manipulate permanent restorative materials; i.e., amalgam, composite, and glass ionomer. (X)
14. Manipulate temporary restorative materials; i.e., zinc oxide eugenol and ionic resin material (IRM). (XI)
15. Demonstrate selecting a shade for restorations. (X)
16. Write a lab prescription. (XII)
17. Fabricate mouth protectors. (XIII)
18. Demonstrate safe handling of dental materials and dental lab equipment. (VI)
19. Demonstrate infection control and universal precautions when working with dental materials and laboratory equipment. (XIV)
