Description: Exploration of the ways in which music, time, pitch, and energy work with the art of dance. Emphasis on reading and writing music notation and performing movement that correlates to the notation and vice versa



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Define the concept of time as it relates to music and dance. (I)
2. Define the connection between pitch and space as they relate to music and dance. (I)
3. Define the use of energy as it relates to music and dance. (I)
4. Define time signature and explain its use in rhythmic notation. (II)
5. Define meter and rhythm and describe their use in rhythmic notation. (II)
6. Illustrate the relative value of notes used in rhythmic notation. (II)
7. Describe a musical staff and its use in rhythmic notation. (II)
8. Read a simple rhythmic score and translate the rhythms into movement. (II)
9. Observe a simple movement pattern and translate it into a rhythmic score. (II)
10. Create a simple solo choreography and score to accompany. (III)
11. Perform the score as the choreography is being performed. (III)
12. Critique the effectiveness of the score for the choreography. (III)
13. Critique the performance of the score for rhythmic clarity. (III)
