Description: Service learning field experience in private/public agencies, educational institutions, and citizen volunteer groups.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Complete individual educational plan approved by the faculty coordinator for the student and sponsoring agency. (I)
2. Demonstrate both oral and written communication skills through reflective journal and group discussions. (I)
3. Report on service-learning experience with assigned agency. (I)
4. Provide written analysis and critique of the service-learning experience. (I)
5. Describe the relationships between the experiences in the agency setting and chemistry skills. (I)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work. MCCCD Official Course Outline
I. Service-Learning Core Components. Activities: Each service-learning experience will have different activities. Those starred () are required of all participating students. Others may fulfill competencies
      1. Complete college/agency orientation
      2. Complete fifty (50) clock contact hours in the agency per semester credit
      3. Keep a journal of daily activities to demonstrate a variety of experiences
      4. Attend and participate in group feedback sessions to share experiences with other service- learning participants
      5. Meet a minimum of 2 times per semester with faculty coordinator
      6. Complete written evaluation of service-learning experience providing suggestions for improvement of the program
