Description: Review of basic concepts of chemistry emphasized in non- degree biology courses. Concepts of matter, energy, and chemical characteristics of atoms. Structure and function of inorganic and organic molecules

MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Explain fundamental concepts of matter and energy. (I)
2. Identify the basic parts of atoms and describe how they influence chemical characteristics. (II, III)
3. Describe the structure and functions of basic inorganic molecules found in living organisms. (IV)
4. Describe the structure and functions of the four kinds of organic molecules found in living organisms. (V)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work. Please see individual course syllabi for additional information, including specific course requirements.
