Description: Further examination and refinement of communication and beginning professional counseling skills as they relate to the addicted client and family members. Emphasis on practicing the application of these skills to various situations associated with treatment planning. Record keeping/documentation skills emphasized.

4. Summarize the importance of asking probing questions. (I)
5. Explain the client responsibility in the process of change. (II)

7. Explain the importance of encouraging clients and family members. (II)
8. Describe how to close or terminate client interviews. (II)
9. Explain denial as it applies to both clients and their family members. (III)
10. Identify special issues in the counseling process and describe appropriate behavior for handling them. (III)
