Description: Understanding of the digital rules and programs used in coloring, toning and lettering comics, and the problems presented therein within the sequential narrative. Emphasis on rules and guidelines within the industry, and digital coloring and lettering.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe and critique industry standard guidelines and techniques used in the comics industry for computer coloring. (I)
2. Apply computer coloring to drawings using channels and layers under comics and newspaper guidelines. (II)
3. Describe and critique industry standard guidelines and techniques used in the comics industry for computer toning. (III)
4. Apply computer toning to drawings using Manga Studio and Adobe PhotoShop under comics and newspaper guidelines. (IV)
5. Describe and critique industry standard guidelines and techniques used in the comics industry for lettering. (V)
6. Create masthead and logo using Adobe Illustrator. (VI)
7. Create and apply word balloons and dialogue to comics pages in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. (VI)
8. Create final drawings that incorporate coloring, masthead logo and word balloons. (VII)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies.
