Description: Introduction to construction trades with an overview of standard practices in the construction profession including safety, reading blueprints, tools and equipment. Provides students with the information and skills needed to read and understand construction drawings. Includes basic rigging and material handling procedures.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Effectively use a construction scale employing an understanding of mathematical operations. (I)
2. Interpret various types of construction drawings, including their fundamental components and features. (I)
3. Identify construction methods and materials described in various types of construction drawings. (I)
4. Apply various symbols, terms, abbreviations, and drawing conventions to various types of construction working drawings. (I)
5. Define basic rigging in construction trades including the movement of materials from one place to another using various types of lifting gear. (II)
6. Demonstrate proper material handling procedures. (III)
7. Effectively communicate with stakeholders. (IV)
