Description: Introduction to construction trades with an overview of common practices in the construction profession including maintenance of workspace according to professional standards and basic calculation skills in the construction environment including the primary operations. Examines the United States standard and metric units of measurement, orthographic figures, and area and volume calculations for two and three-dimensional objects.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Apply mathematical skills to solve construction problems. (I)
2. Demonstrate proficiency and accuracy in measurements using a standard ruler, metric ruler, and measuring tape. (I)
3. Convert units of length, weight, volume, and temperature between the United States standard and metric systems of measurement. (I)
4. Explain the metric system as it relates to the construction trades. (I)
5. Effectively use a construction scale employing an understanding of mathematical operations. (II)
