Description: Introduction to nail services in the beauty industry. Focus on knowledge and skills of providing nail services on actual clients in a salon setting.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Apply proper safety and sanitation practices including infection control and first aid in compliance with the BCB. (I,II)
2. Communicate in a culturally responsive manner to build trust and rapport with clients, colleagues, work teams and various industry professionals. (I,II)
3. Employ personal wellness strategies. (I,II)
4. Identify the basic needs in human relations. (I,II)
5. Apply knowledge of fundamental science concepts, including anatomy, chemistry, microbiology, and physiology when performing services. (I,II)
6. Evaluate client needs through consultation, within the scope of practice, to educate clients, define design considerations and decisions, evaluate treatment and progress, and determine appropriate tools and products needed to achieve the desired results. (I,II)
7. Accurately document services performed, including service releases, client treatment records, and service incidences in accordance with industry and BCB standards. (I,II)
8. Demonstrate cosmetology skills to successfully pass the final written exam with 80% or better, including concepts, theory, and practical application to meet BCB expectations and procedures. (I,II)
9. Apply skills learned on live and mock models in a salon setting. (II)
10. Create proper nail care services using fundamental concepts of nail theory and applications in basic and advanced nail care services. (II)
11. Explain the business operating principles of the beauty industry, including business plans, salon business, methodology, resources, tools, and self-promotion to gain employment in the beauty industry. (II)
