Description: Analysis of the major political, social, economic, and cultural/intellectual factors in English historical development from Celtic times to the end of the 17th century.

1. Identify the various geographic features of the British Isles and their impact on the development of civilization in the region. (I)
2. Describe the origins and civilization of the Celtic people in the British Isles. (I, II)
3. Assess the Roman presence on the British Isles and their legacy after their withdrawal. (I, II, III)
4. Describe the Anglo-Saxon development of early England and the Danish contributions to English state and society. (III)
5. Explain the political, social, and institutional changes which took place in Britain as a result of the Norman Conquest. (III, IV)
6. Describe the development of the English constitutional system during the 12th and 13th centuries. (IV, V)
7. Assess the causes, events, and results of the Hundred Years` War. (V, VI)
8. Evaluate the problems facing English society in the 14th and 15th centuries and their respective impacts. (VI)
9. Identify the factors involved in the Protestant Reformation in England and their impact on historical events. (VII)
10. Describe the factors driving English exploration and their role in the development of England’s overseas empire. (VII, VIII)
11. Explain the factors that led to the English Civil War and the impact of the war and the Commonwealth on England. (VIII)
12. Identify the causes of the “Glorious Revolution” in 1688 and its impact on England’s constitution and role in Europe. (VIII)
