Description: Interdisciplinary, multi-perspective, and comparative study of the experiences of Women of Color in the Americas and their impact on the arts, literature, social structures and political movements. Examines how the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexuality has shaped their lived experiences and legacy.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Identify the social, historical, and cultural constructs of race, class, gender, and sexuality in the Americas. (I, II)
2. Compare critical terminologies, theories, and concepts in the field of women’s studies as they relate to Women of Color in the Americas. (I, II)
3. Explain how the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexuality has jointly shaped the diverse lived experiences of Women of Color in the Americas. (III)
4. Discuss the ways Women of Color confront and create culture in the Americas. (IV)
5. Analyze historical challenges and current issues in the field of women’s studies as they relate to Women of Color in the Americas. (V)
6. Re-envision the future of activism by and in advocacy of Women of Color in the Americas. (V)
