Description: Overview of the field of dance focusing on origins, historical development, cultural characteristics of the various styles of dance and their contemporary practice in the United States, and dance as a vital part of the human experience.

2. Examine the historical lineage of the field of dance from its origins to contemporary practice in the United States. (I)
3. Discuss the significance of dance as a function of American culture. (I, II, III)
4. Describe the characteristics of various dance styles from their origins to contemporary practice in the United States. (I, II, III)
5. Interpret the ways in which dance adds to the richness of the human experience. (I, II, III)
6. Analyze the historical development of various dance styles from their origins to contemporary practice in the United States. (II, III)
7. Describe major contributions to the field of dance in the United States including the individual contributors. (II, III)
