Description: Overview of systems-based thinking in nursing and its role in improving the quality and safety of patient care. Focus on coordination of healthcare systems components to address complex issues and deliver optimal care.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Evaluate system effectiveness through the application of evidence-based practice with a focus on quality improvement principles. (I, II, VI) 
2. Identify the relationship among macro, meso, and microsystems of health services across various healthcare settings.  (I-III) 
3. Explain the role of the nurse in considering cost effectiveness of care, advocacy, and collaborating with inter-professional teams. (I-VI) 
4. Apply quality improvement principles to evaluate system performance, identify system errors, and determine innovative solutions for delivering safe, quality care. (I-VI) 
5. Analyze the impact of local, regional, national, and global systems on patient outcomes. (III, IV) 
6. Evaluate financial and payment models in healthcare and their impact on access, delivery, and quality of care.  (V, VI)
