Description: Beginning to low-intermediate English language listening and speaking skills on familiar topics. Focus on the development of an appropriate degree of accuracy, fluency, and spontaneity to allow for interactions appropriate to this level.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Identify main ideas, supporting details, key information, and signal words when listening to formal and informal oral texts on familiar topics. (I, III, IV, V)
2. Demonstrate beginning to low-intermediate listening skills in a variety of communication contexts. (I-V)
3. Produce a multimodal speaking project about a familiar topic that accurately explains necessary information. (I-VI)
4. Develop effective communication strategies to exchange familiar and routine information. (II-V)
5. Use language appropriately for different sociolinguistic contexts. (II-V)
6. Apply an understanding of appropriate grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation in conversation. (V)
