Description: Application of the dental hygiene process of care with emphasis on diverse populations. Students prepare for clinical practice using self assessment, evaluation and critical thinking skills.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Formulate complex dental hygiene care plans for diverse patient populations. (I)
2. Provide dental hygiene therapy for diverse patient populations. (II)
3. Detect and remove moderate to heavy calculus deposits on patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. (II)
4. Demonstrate clinical behaviors necessary for entry into dental hygiene practice. (III)
5. Apply self-assessment skills to assure and improve quality in patient care. (IV)
6. Provide recommendations for continuing care following dental hygiene therapy. (V)
7. Evaluate the outcomes of dental hygiene therapy. (V)
8. Incorporate cultural considerations into comprehensive dental hygiene care. (VI)
9. Integrate ethical, legal and regulatory principles into clinical practice. (VI)
