Description: Study of the dental hygiene process of care with emphasis on the patient with special needs and advanced instrumentation. Students participate in field observations and present case documentations.

1. Distinguish oral health conditions related to dental hygiene care for patients with special needs. (I)
2. Formulate appropriate dental hygiene care plans for patients with special needs. (II)
3. Examine the implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upon dental hygiene practice. (III)
4. Recognize cultural considerations and implications for dental hygiene practice for a diverse patient population. (IV)
5. Present patient care strategies and outcomes for populations with special needs. (V)
6. Analyze research outcomes to support the delivery of optimal dental care for diverse patient populations. (V)
