Description: Study of the dental hygiene process of care with emphasis on comprehensive care planning, case presentation, and clinical decision making. Introduction to advanced periodontal instrumentation.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Formulate dental hygiene care plans for patients with moderate to advanced periodontal diseases. (I)
2. Analyze the components of informed consent and their significance to the presentation of the dental hygiene care plan. (II)
3. Construct a case documentation of a patient with moderate to advanced periodontitis. (III)
4. Apply evidence-based decision making to patient care. (III)
5. Determine appropriate instrument selection and technique for root debridement for patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. (IV)
6. Assess the need for additional supportive periodontal therapy based on the evaluation of patient outcomes. (V)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
