Description: Conversational and written Spanish for law enforcement personnel. Emphasis on basic sentence structure, pronunciation and vocabulary used in common job-related situations.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Perform a simple greeting and make various types of introductions in Spanish. (I)
2. Recite Spanish words, using standard sound patterns and intonation. (II)
3. Describe dates, times and reporting an incident. (III)
4. Ask for and give permission in Spanish. (IV)
5. Give the Spanish words for immediate family members. (V)
6. Give and follow basic directions and commands in Spanish. (VI)
7. Use Spanish vocabulary in describing parts of the body. (VII)
8. Formulate basic questions in Spanish in the law-enforcement setting. (VIII)
9. Give the Spanish names for the most common dangerous weapons. (IX)
10. Name in Spanish illegal drugs using both scientific and slang names. (X)
11. Carry on a simple conversation in Spanish with a witness in common types of violations. (XI)
12. Describe similarities and differences between the Hispanic and Anglo cultures. (XII)
