Description: Includes the histology and embryology of oral tissues; developmental disturbances of the face, oral cavity, and related structures; tooth composition and morphology including anomalies; eruption patterns and occlusal evaluation. Use of skulls, models and multimedia resources also covered.

1. Locate and identify the structures and associated landmarks of the head and neck. (I)
2. Locate and identify the divisions and associated landmarks of the oral cavity and pharynx. (I)
3. Identify primary and permanent dentition. (II)
4. Recognize each tooth of the primary and permanent dentition into type and function. (II)
5. Identify the chronological order of the eruption and shedding patterns of the primary and permanent detention. (II)
6. Differentiate each tooth in the primary and permanent dentition to the Universal Tooth Numbering system, the Palmer system and the International Standards Organization Designation system. (ISOD). (II)
7. Distinguish and describe the morphological surface characteristics of the primary and permanent dentitions and their associated anomalies. (II-III)
8. Evaluate functional assessments by recognizing normal and malocclusion characteristics and components. (IV)
9. Describe the normal human prenatal, embryonic and histological development with emphasis on the face, neck, orofacial structures and dentition. (V, VI, VII)
10. Identify and describe the developmental disturbances of the orofacial region and pharynx during embryonic development. (VI)
11. Describe the development, location, chemical composition, physical structure, and clinical significance of enamel, dentin, pulp and cementum. (VII)
