Description: Focus on the fundamentals and application of grammar, punctuation, spelling, style and structure necessary in professional writing fields, including media writing.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Using correct terminology, identify parts of speech and describe the function of each in the sentence. (I, II)
2. Write effective and grammatically correct sentences for professional writing. (II, III)
3. Select the best word based upon definition and context within writing. (II, IV)
4. Apply correct punctuation standards to sentences as needed for professional writing. (III)
5. Apply basic Associated Press (AP) style to professional writing. (IV)
