Description: Provides students with clinical experience in a small animal general veterinary practice. Provides the opportunity for practical application and development of knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired in program coursework at a veterinary assistant level. Students have exposure to practice philosophies, methodologies, and real-life situations requiring critical thinking and decision-making abilities. Includes instruction and evaluation by veterinarians or veterinary technicians guided by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America Veterinary Assistant Student Essential and Recommended Skills list.

1. Perform essential and recommended skills as appropriate for a veterinary assistant in a small animal general veterinary practice. (I, II, III, IV, V, VI)
2. Describe and apply the roles and responsibilities of a veterinary assistant in a small animal general veterinary practice. (I, II, III, IV, V, VI)
3. Demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making abilities in a clinical practice setting. (I, II, III, IV, V, VI)
