Description: Advanced course in exercise testing, to include health appraisal, risk stratification, and the selection and administration of evidence-based assessments for apparently healthy and athletic populations. Pharmacology, special populations, and environmental conditions are also examined.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Using participant health/medical history and industry standards for pre-participation health screening, assess participant risk for experiencing an adverse event with exercise testing. (I)
2. Identify special populations and environmental conditions that may require modifications for assessment and the need for referral to another healthcare professional. (I-III)
3. Demonstrate industry-accepted professional, ethical, and business standards for optimizing safety and reducing liability. (I-III)
4. Communicate orally, visually and in written form with peers in a manner appropriate to the field. (I-III)
5. Conduct advanced evidence-based fitness and health-related assessments for apparently healthy according to industry standards. (II)
6. Describe pharmacology fundamentals for patients with cardiovascular, metabolic, and pulmonary disease. (II)
7. Select advanced evidence-based fitness and health-related assessments appropriate to client needs and goals, and to ensure client safety. (II, III)
8. Adapt instruction of assessment to client needs and goals, and to ensure client safety. (II, III)
9. Interpret fitness and health-related assessment results. (II, III)
10. Identify program modifications based upon interpretation of assessment results. (II, III)
11. Conduct advanced evidence-based skill-related fitness assessments for athletic populations according to industry standards. (III)
