Description: Laboratory portion of the Interpreter Preparation Program Seminar. One hundred sixty (160) clock hours of work required. Practical experience in settings such as educational, rehabilitation, community service centers, and agencies serving children, adolescents and/or adults who are deaf or hard of hearing. Designed to provide students with the opportunity to synthesize practical and academic experiences gained during the in-classroom portion of the program. Site, supervision, and plan of activity mutually agreed upon by the student and instructor. Capstone experience for Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree students.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Apply Interpreter Preparation Program classroom instruction to work experiences in an interpreting or interpreting- related position. (I-III)
2. Develop, receive approval, and document individualized interpreting or interpreting-related learning objectives in consultation with the instructor and a site supervisor. (I)
3. Accomplish at least three individualized interpreting or interpreting-related learning objectives. (I-II)
4. Communicate effectively with the employer, the site supervisor, and the instructor. (II)
5. Use appropriate interpersonal skills with supervisor(s), consumer(s), and other employees. (II)
6. Document work responsibilities and achievement of learning objectives. (II-III)
7. Perform self-assessment and utilize feedback regarding performance of learning objectives. (III)
8. Evaluate the internship experience and reevaluate professional development goals. (III)
