Description: Focus on the practical application of current philosophical theories, methods, and models of assessment and instruction for remediation of reading.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Apply Reading Specialist skills and strategies in supervised field experience in a 6-12th grade setting. (I)
2. Communicate effectively with general education 6-12th grade teachers and school personnel. (I)
3. Demonstrate leadership skills in related to working collaboratively with staff, teachers, and administration. (I-IV)
4. Administer various informal reading assessments to assess 6-12th grade students` reading behaviors. (II)
5. Analyze and interpret the results to determine 6-12th grade students? reading levels, strengths, and weaknesses in print and meaning processing. (III)
6. Design a program based on the 6-12th grade students` identified reading levels, strengths, and weaknesses in print and meaning processing. (III)
7. Write a formal diagnostic report that includes pre-assessment results and a plan for remediation. (III)
8. Implement a plan for remediation/enrichment with the 6-12th grade students. (IV)
9. Analyze and interpret post-assessment results. (IV)
10. Write a formal final report for 6-12th grade students. (IV)
