Description: Principles and application of a clinical judgment decision-making model in nursing . Description and application of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills and their relationship to the clinical judgment decision-making model.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Differentiate between critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical judgment. (I)
2. Discuss data and implications of failure to apply clinical judgment and appropriate clinical decision-making in nursing and healthcare situations. (II)
3. Describe the steps in the clinical judgment decision-making model. (III)
4. Relate the National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) Clinical Judgment Assessment/Measurement Model (CJAM/CJMM) and the nursing process to the clinical judgment decision-making model and factors that influence clinical judgment. (IV)
5. Apply the clinical judgment decision-making model steps to make appropriate clinical decisions in nursing and other healthcare situations. (V)
6. Integrate patient-centered care, professionalism (including ethical principles), leadership, system-based practice, informatics and technology, communication, teamwork and collaboration, safety, quality improvement, and evidenced-based practice in the application of a clinical judgment decision-making model in nursing and other healthcare situations. (VI)
