Description: Emphasizes the social and political backgrounds as well as the form and content of English literature from Anglo-Saxon times to the end of the eighteenth century.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Identify major influences (such as social, economic, political, etc) contributing to the change and development of English literature. (I-IV)
2. Identify characteristics of major literary movements within English literature: the Middle Ages, the Sixteenth Century, the Seventeenth Century; Restoration and the Eighteenth Century. (I-IV)
3. Analyze the works of individual authors (within the backgrounds and movements). (I-IV)
4. Identify characteristics of these works with regard to content and form. (I-IV)
5. Analyze major influences (such as social, economic, political, etc) contributing to the change and development of English literature. (I-V)
6. Analyze characteristics of major literary movements within English literature: the Middle Ages, the Sixteenth Century, Restoration and the Eighteenth Century. (I-V)
7. Identify major characteristics of English prosody. (V)
