Description: Introduction to the field of aesthetics including infection control, sanitation procedures, ethics, and rules and regulations for the Arizona Board of Cosmetology (AZBOC). Application of theory and skills through treatment services provided to the public. Focus on effective client communication, interpersonal skills, and documentation, as well as the basics of executing an effective facial. An overview of advanced modalities is also included.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Discuss the field of aesthetics including the history, opportunities, and trends. (I)
2. Perform basic consultation, services, advisement, and documentation within the scope of practice and for the appropriate setting. (I-V)
3. Perform skincare treatments using an understanding of foundational chemistry, biology, skin conditions, and infection control protocols. (I-V)
4. Model industry accepted professional appearance, ethical behavior, personal hygiene standards, and personal wellness strategies. (II, III, IV)
5. Evaluate a client`s consultation, goals, and commitment to select an appropriate service or product. (II, III, IV, V)
6. Collaborate effectively with a diversity of individuals and teams. (II, IV, V)
7. Communicate in a culturally responsive manner to build trust and rapport with peers and instructors. (II, IV, V)
8. Perform safety and sanitation practices in compliance with the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology (AZBOC). (III, IV)
9. Document accurate treatment records and consult forms. (III, IV, V)
