Description: Designed to advance the resistance training routines of more experienced students in a progressive fashion. Includes principles of and practice with the safe use of free and machine weights and Olympic lifts as well as strategies for effective workouts. Customized training programs devised with instructor guidance. Consideration of resistance training as part of a comprehensive health, fitness and wellness program included.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Perform the skills of the various resistance training activities. (I)
2. Demonstrate proper body mechanics and adherence to health and safety standards for entry level students. (I, II)
3. Perform a variety of resistance training routines dictated by the rules and traditional standards limited only by personal capacities or skill level. (I-III)
4. Evaluate and modify exercises according to the need of the individual. (I, II)
5. Perform and progress in conditioning activities according to personal motivations and goals. (I, III)
6. Participate in recreational, occupational, competitive, and/or fitness and conditioning opportunities appropriate for personal interests and fitness level. (III)

MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
