Description: Advanced garment construction techniques. Emphasis on lined jacket construction and working with patterned and specialty fabrics.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Use sewing and pressing equipment and tools effectively for construction of techniques and garments. (I)
2. Apply clothing construction and pressing techniques to specialty seams, buttonholes, zippers, welt- and patch-pockets, and matching stripes, plaids, border-prints. (II)
3. Select commercial pattern, fashion fabric, lining, and interfacing for lined jacket/coat construction. (III)
4. Fit and alter pattern for lined jacket/coat. (III)
5. Prepare fashion fabric and lining for pattern layouts. (III)
6. Demonstrate accurate pattern placement and pinning for jacket/coat layouts using guide-sheet diagrams, matching fabric patterns where needed. (III)
7. Cut and mark pattern pieces using tailor tacks and other appropriate methods. (III)
8. Apply compatible interfacings to jacket/coat fashion fabric. (III)
9. Construct four-point collar on jacket/coat. (III)
10. Apply shaping and pressing techniques to jacket-coat lapels and front facing. (III)
11. Construct and set sleeves into jacket/coat; construct and attach sleeve-heads. (III)
12. Attach shoulder pads/shapers using correct sizes and shapes for jacket/coat. (III)
13. Use appropriate hemming method on jacket/coat. (III)
14. Construct and attach lining to jacket/coat. (III)
15. Align and apply buttonholes, buttons, closures to jacket/coat opening. (III)
16. Evaluate the construction and fit of garment. (IV)
