Description: Introduction to the characteristics and behavior of fire, fire hazard properties of ordinary materials, extinguishing agents, firefighter safety, fire suppression organization and equipment, and basic fire fighting tactics.

2. Explain the components and use of personal protective clothing. (I)
3. Explain the organization, services provided, and structure of the fire department. (II)
4. Describe the theory of modern fire behavior and the methods of fire control. (III)
5. Assemble, don, and use a self-contained breathing apparatus. (IV)
6. Use proper rope inspection procedure, and tie the standard knots and hitches used by the fire department. (V)
7. Describe the components of a water supply system and the proper method of operating a fire hydrant. (VI)
8. Explain the types and functions of fire apparatus, including safe operation. (VII)
9. Discuss the standard types of hoses, nozzles, appliances, hose rolls, carries, and evolutions used by the fire department. (VIII)
10. Identify the different types and components of ladders used by the fire department. (IX)
11. Describe various power tools used by the fire department. (X)
12. Explain forcible entry through various barriers, using the proper tools and standard procedures. (XI)
13. Explain search and rescue techniques in a structure to remove a victim. (XII)
14. Explain the use and techniques of salvage, using salvage cover throws. (XIII)
15. Explain proper techniques for overhaul. (XIV)
