Description: Practical application of theories, models, and instruction for gifted education. Provides an opportunity to receive guided, practical, on-site experience working with gifted students. Requires observations of gifted students in a variety of settings, evaluation of teaching techniques, and critical review of academic standards as they relate to gifted learners and related professional organizations.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Observe, plan, teach, assess and participate in a K-12 classroom experience in which most students are identified as gifted. (I, II, III, IV, V, VI)
2. Analyze instruction, relationships, and classroom management strategies observed in your practicum experience. (I, II, III, IV, V, VI)
3. Identify responsibilities of the gifted teacher relative to the students` grade level. (I)
4. Summarize gifted instruction from an administrative and instructional perspective. (II)
5. Analyze formal and informal assessments and interpret results to determine students` educational needs and placement. (III, IV)
6. Identify gifted education professional organizations and professional development activities. (V)
7. Record experiences, interactions, goals and self-evaluations in a reflective journal. (VI)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
