Description: Peer support specialist preparation related to addictions and substance use disorders. Opportunity for students to use their developed knowledge and skills in an applied setting with supervision.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Explain the philosophy and mission of the host agency and the specific policies and procedures for the placement setting. (I)
2. Explain the role and responsibilities of a peer support specialist as outlined by the host agency. (I-II)
3. Perform the role of a peer support specialist as outlined by the host agency. (II)
4. Observe the host agency treatment and documentation process. (III)
5. Explain the legal and ethical standards of practice of a peer support specialist within the host agency. (IV)
6. Demonstrate skills required to handle a crisis or emergency. (V)
7. Assist in evaluating needs of individuals with special needs. (VI)
