Description: Designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and manage cardiopulmonary arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes according to current emergency cardiovascular care (ECC) guidelines. Integrates knowledge of basic electrocardiographic rhythm interpretation, pharmacologic agents, and other interventions used in advanced cardiac life support.

MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Communicate effectively with members of diverse groups. (I)
2. Effectively function within a multi-disciplinary team, recognizing roles and responsibilities. (I)
3. Perform basic life support (BLS) with advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) in a cardiovascular emergency. (II)
4. Perform comprehensive patient assessment. (III)
5. Use basic and advanced airway adjuncts, and suctioning to manage the airway. (IV)
6. Use ventilatory devices to maintain respiration. (IV)
7. Manage respiratory pre-arrest and arrest, including signs and symptoms. (IV)
8. Integrate pharmacology with management of pre-arrest, cardiac arrest, and postresuscitation. (V)
9. Integrate electrocardiogram rhythm recognition with management of pre-arrest, cardiac arrest, and post-resuscitation according to current ECC guidelines. (VI)
10. Describe safety procedures while performing electrical therapy. (VI)
11. Manage cerebrovascular and cardiovascular conditions according to current ECC guidelines. (VI)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
